I have finally graduated from the University of Westminster studying Computer Games Development Bachelor of Science with Honours . I have graduated with a 2:1 which is an Upper Second Class. This is the most iconic moment in my life, I have never felt so much freedom and happiness before. Now with my degree I am now able to "prove" my worth to my future employers and that I am capable to achieve and showcase my work.
I used to wake up at 3am to get to work to do 4am to 8am on most days, then directly to Uni from 9am to 6pm on some days and then spend 2-3hrs revising or doing coursework. I used to work 5 days a week. If I wasn't working I was at Uni the whole day or If I wasn't at Uni, I was at work or doing both on the same the day. I did this for nearly 3 years, it did have some effect on my learning but I pulled through with relatively high grades.
Because of how much I worked the I was able to make a decision that I would just solely concentrate on my University work for the last year and therefor left work. This is by far the best year of University for me, and this really showed in my Final Year Project which I was awarded a First Class. I was also able to participate with University activities such as the University of Westminster Game Jam, which my group was awarded first place and also a Game Jam in partnership with Graz, Austria students (A more detailed post will be coming soon on this topic).
The last few years studying at University have been the toughest and stressful parts of my life and they have shaped me to become independent. They have taught me that no one is going to hold your hand, the world is brutal place. What defines you as a person is how you turn the negatives into positives, how you use your creativity to shape the world around you. Mistakes will happen and its how you learn from them. It's not about what you've learnt, but how you apply what you have learnt.
I'm thankful for having the opportunity to study and learn in the Computer Games industry, especially with this field expanding every year, making leaps and bounds in society and also leaps in making technology advancements. I am excited to start working soon in this industry and learn further; I can't wait to see where it takes me.
