I have been working hard on Oxidane and have made a lot of progress over the last few weeks tweaking and adding new content to the project. The progress so far has been amazing and I've been enjoying every moment of it, learning even more about the wonderful unreal engine. The motivation I've got from just seeing results has been the main driving point and I dont intend to stop until its release.
WHATS NEW:
I have currently added 3 tiers of Aquatic life; Small fish, Medium Fish, and Large Fish.
New 3D Aquatic animals with animations.
A new and improved obstacle avoidance system (that doesn't drive the AI crazy, but still has improvements to be done)
A new navigation system using splines.
A new environmental look, fog, ocean shader and new day & night cycle.
The small fish currently only holds clownfish, the small fish type category is determined if they live around corals. The medium fish category currently holds 4 different fish these include Blue Tang, Blue, and Yellow Tang, Purple Tang and the Blue maomao; the medium fish category is determined if they move out to open waters and aren't always around coral. The Large Fish category currently holds 2 different fish which is a shark and a manta ray.
Also, a new and improved version of navigation has been added, instead of using location point destinations I have added splines which can set the navigational path for the creature but this is still a prototype and the animal that uses this system have no obstacle avoidance for the moment.
Obstacle avoidance that is currently implemented is now using raycasting to find a new open area to go, instead of using find a random location system that was used in the previous version. This has made the fish movement a lot better but it can still get a bit messy and I plan to change this. I must confess the obstacle avoidance has been getting on my nerves, as I have tried A LOT of different techniques to find a better alternative but it's been tough and the current version is the best one I've found so far. However, the new spline navigation system is looking like it could change this roadblock I am experiencing on the obstacle avoidance and I intended to perfect this into an even better obstacle avoidance system
SUMMARY
What I am really proud of is the fact I haven't let this roadblocks stop me, mainly because I have so much to do and so, instead of wasting time on the roadblock I start on a different aspect of the game like creating assets, animations, materials etc. There's always something to be done. What I seek to improve is my To Do list, I have a basic to-do list I want to really improve.
